Youth Specialty Classes

 

Kids are home for the summer and much as you try to keep them entertained, it won't be long until you're hearing those famous words "I'm bored!"

 

Here are some specialty classes that may help with that!

 

 

Days: Tuesday and Thursday

Ages: 6-8

Hours: 9:30-10:30 am

Location: Grayslake Party Room

Member Fee: $5 per session

 

 

Session #6: July 20 and 22 - Kids Yoga

Build self-awareness and esteem, improve creativity and flexibility, along with learning how to relieve stress.

 


 

Preschool Specialty Classes

 

Days: Tuesday and Thursday

Ages: 3-5

Hours: 9:30-10:30 am

Location: Grayslake Party Room

Member Fee: $5 per session

 

Children will have fun participation a variety of games, arts and crafts and listening to stories around the following themes. Children must be three by June 1, 2010 and completely toilet trained.

 

Session #5: July 13 and 15 - My Five Senses

Session #7: July 27 and 29 - Birthday Bash

Session #8: Aug 10 and 12 - Barnyard Animals

 


 

 

Mazing Kids

 

The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is an inclusive, charitable Association, founded on the Christian Principles and dedicated to building strong kids, strong families and strong communities through programs that develop spirit, mind and body. The 'Mazing Kids center is a convenience for families, providing children ages 6 weeks to 11 years an opportunity to play and learn in a safe, nurturing environment while their parents enjoy our YMCA.

Getting fit isn't easy. Challenges range from making the time, to having the energy to finding the right place. That’s where the YMCA’s new Commit to be Fit program can help—and best of all, it’s FREE to all members! For a fitness program to meet your individual needs, you need individualized coaching. During the 12-week program, your Fit Coach will meet with you to determine your lifestyle, schedule and fitness goals. Getting started is easy. To sign up for the Commit to be Fit program, simply stop by the member relations desk and schedule your first appointment with your Fit Coach. You’ll be on your way to a healthier you!

 

 

Teens ages 12-17 are REQUIRED to complete the Teen Commit-to-be-Fit program, and complete an orientation on cardiovascular and all selectorized weight equipment. The Commit-to-be-Fit program for teens consists of four separate appointments based on the goals and time frame of the individual.

 

Teens ages 16-17 have the option of going through the Fast Track. Teens ages 14 or 15 AFTER completion of the Teen Commit-to-be-Fit program and proof of passing the exam, are permitted to use the Free Weight Room based on the following conditions (NO EXCEPTIONS):

  • Written informed consent
  • Medical clearance form
  • Proof of age
  • Proper ID ($5 replacement fee if lost)
  • Abide by the code of conduct
  • Mandatory supervision by a parent or guardian at ALL times

Teens who are interested in the free-weight option MUST set up an appointment with the Fitness Coordinator to go over the conditions and fill out the appropriate paperwork.
